Well-being starts with healthy housing

When the Housing Authority decided it was time to perform rehabilitation work on some of the first homes built on the LCO Reservation, the LCO Housing Modernization project was born. Today it continues as an ongoing, multi-phase, single-family home renovation effort for the Lac Courte Oreilles Tribe.

This renovation project builds in lasting value

To address a variety of longstanding issues, each home is demolished down to the studs and foundation. A mold mitigation and removal team disinfects the structure and any existing water or moisture issues are fixed, ensuring the home is safe for habitation and will remain mold-free into the future.

Next, the house is rebuilt. The Tribe elects to use high-quality materials so they and their tenants will see a return on investment. For example, zip sheathing, spray foam insulation, and high-quality Marvin windows are installed to ensure a high R-value, which makes the home less expensive to heat. Additionally, a no-maintenance metal roof provides a leak-free solution for 30+ years.

Typically seven houses are renovated over the course of eight-and-a-half weeks. Each house presents its own unique hurdles, from structurally weak foundations that must be either shored up or demolished down and repaired, to rotted out studs, trusses, and subfloors that are torn out and replaced. Even so, Woodstone tackles them in a timely manner, staying on schedule and within budget.
