Seven Clans Casino Red Lake
Red Lake, MN
This new casino and hotel will change the way that the Red Lake Nation is perceived in the northern Minnesota area. Utilizing curved metallic panels with a color changing light system, the façade of the building glows different colors – similar to the surface of nearby Red Lake. A large Porte Cochere defines the entry to the facility. Inside, the high-ceiling of the lobby and prefunction area creates an inviting and exciting space that is decorated with native design from the Red Lake culture.
The gaming floor is constructed on computer access flooring to provide ease of movement for the gaming machines as well as a plenum to provide a displacement air system. This system brings in 100% conditioned outside air right to the customers’ feet and displaces the smoke to be exhausted above.
Connected to the casino is a 40 room all-suite hotel, featuring fireplaces in more than half of the rooms. All of the upstairs guest rooms have decks overlooking the surrounding forest.
There is a convention hall that can be subdivided into smaller banquet rooms. As one big hall it can accommodate 300 people for dinner events. There is a large kitchen for catering the convention space and servicing the 64 seat sit down restaurant.
Woodstone was brought onto the project team early to provide preconstruction services in a timely manner. This allowed the team to work together on the design and budget simultaneously to bring the design in line with the Owner’s budget of $16.4 million. One of the more significant Value Analysis ideas that was incorporated was to revise the framing of the hotel from precast to wood frame. This saved a significant amount of money without reducing the program for the project.
