“Building buildings is easy but what really matters in life,
is building people and relationships.”
Woodstone Builders, Inc., was founded in 2003 by Greg Johnson with the focus of building high-end residential homes.
Doug Niesen came to Woodstone Builders, Inc., in 2006, after spending 16 years at Kraus-Anderson where he was Sector Leader of Gaming and Entertainment. His career highlight at Kraus-Anderson was leading the construction of Mystic Lake Casino in Prior Lake, MN, the first Vegas-style gaming casino in the Midwest. Doug left Kraus-Anderson and joined Woodstone Builders, Inc., as a business partner and Vice President of the company.
Doug is a graduate of Minnesota State University, Mankato with a degree in Construction Management. Doug has over 38 years of experience spanning all types of construction projects both locally and nationally. With his many years of experience, he has developed countless long-term relationships with subcontractors, architects, and suppliers. These positive relationships are essential to making our projects run smoothly, stay within budget, and produce a high-quality building. His experience, integrity, and genuine interest in not only the projects he directs, but the people he serves, has earned him the reputation as an honest, and well-respected partner in Native American communities. Doug’s emphasis on building relationships with his clients and their community has been instrumental to him working with dozens of tribes on over 150 successful projects including: elder centers, hotels, casinos, healthcare clinics, schools, justice centers, Native cultural centers, and community centers throughout the nation.
In 2013, through a mutual friend in the construction industry, Doug met Paul Meyer, owner of Meyer Contracting, Inc., and a Tribal member of the White Earth Nation. Paul is a graduate of the University of Minnesota and a professional engineer with over 30 years of diverse construction experience. His experience spans from laboring to CEO, overseeing multi-million-dollar construction services companies. Paul is an experienced entrepreneur with excellent technical and managerial problem-solving skills. Paul comes from humble beginnings and he attributes this foundation to his strong work ethic and his belief that, “anyone can be successful if they work hard”. This attitude has gotten him where he is today.
After performing multiple projects over the years, Paul and Doug decided to partner and purchase Woodstone Builders, Inc., now known as Woodstone, Inc. Paul is the CEO and majority owner and Doug is the President.
Today, Woodstone, Inc., continues to thrive and grow under this partnership. Doug and Paul are passionate about their common goal of helping to enrich Native American communities by offering educational opportunities, training and employment to Tribal Members on all their respective projects. They advocate for Native American members to assume leadership roles believing this will have a positive and lasting impact on the community.
Woodstone, Inc., strives to be the best Native American-owned construction company in the country delivering on its commitment to provide exceptional service and results, and a high-quality product while truly giving back to the Native American communities they serve.
