Last week marked the opening of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe Records Building, a facility designed to meet the intent of the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) guidelines. The facility will provide a secure and environmentally controlled space to safeguard important tribal records, and documents. This new building also supports the Tribe’s ongoing efforts to re-patriate records that were taken from the reservation over the years, allowing these valuable pieces of their history to finally return where they belong. The opening of this facility brings great excitement and enables the Tribe to continue cultural preservation, historical stewardship, and to honor the stories and legacy of their ancestors for generations to come.
